      3D Printing - Filament

0n30 Wagons on a Bambu P1S using PLA

When our company bought a 3D Printer, specifically a Bambu Lab P1S, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to print some wagons. Not knowing CAD, I’ve found that Thingiverse and Makerworld are excellent starting points where people share their CAD files for others to print, so long as it’s for personal use only.

My file was https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2182209 and I printed five of them initially. Noticing a slight degradation in print quality inside the hopper, I toyed with supports and printed another one. These were then primed with red oxied and wafted with grey primer as well.

Photo 1 shows the hopper print as it’s oriented on the print bed, upside-down and with the external supports still in place.

Photo 2 shows the last hopper right side up with the internal supports improving the print quality of the discharge chutes.

Photo 3 shows a hopper with all the support removed. Unfortunately, printing in Matte Black PLA+ doesn’t make a photogenic subject!

Photo 4 shows the two print batches and the improvement in print quality at the discharge chutes when internal supports were enabled.

Photo 6 shows the two bodies primed and dusted. They now await trucks and couplers.

The printing took 6 hours to print four, 1½ to print one, using the default settings for Matte PLA+ with a 0.4mm hotend nozzle. The initial four took 150m or 160g of filament, which works out on material cost alone at £1.40 each wagon body.
