Hi all, i would love to know how people got started modeling. What was thier first creation? Also some good things to first try and make to learn how to model and make scenery. Basically something to get you started that wont be to daunting.

        My first one.

I recommend a mushroom colour or light sand colour grout as a base for industrial or building site ground cover.

@DavoDentetsu do you have a link to what type of product that would be. And is it something you do like a spray adhesive and then sprinkle down?

@Bazz its just a typical bathroom grade grout cement product, any DIY store would carry it.

I just got started modeling a couple of years ago after I’d gotten into steam locomotives. I found that I loved watching the running gear go round-and-round when a steam engine is in motion, and I wanted to have my own version of that at home. I found it calming and relaxing and a great way to unwind from my somewhat high-pressure job.

For getting started with scenery, there’s a particular Youtube channel I’ve found incredibly helpful. It’s “DIY and Digital Railroad”, run by @Jimmy_DIY . I had ideas of what I wanted to do with my layout, and he has lots of great easy-to-follow tutorials that really helped me along the way. He covers pretty much anything someone would want to do scenery-wise in a way that makes it easy and not at all daunting.

My first proper model was my Brief Encounter Monochrome model – which I’ve exhibited for the past couple of years. I learnt a lot while doing it and now look at it and think how I could improve on it now I have more practise and skills! đŸ™‚

I got into model railways almost by accident after a friend asked me to paint the figures on his layout as he hated that part of it. I was making a Japanese dolls house at the time and as I worked on his layout I started thinking how much I’d love to make the houses and trees and everything else. I went to a few model railway shows and fell in love with the idea of creating a world with little trains running through it…

I ordered this woodland valley kit, to try and get my feet wet. I do however need to figure out how to convert to N scale. If anyone has ideas on that let me know.
