• Daily Dose of GWR

Hi all, im starting this new thing where I put in a new fact about the GWR everyday. Today’s topic is the Atlantic Tank engines. The GWR 4600 class were a class of 4-4-2 tank engines used in 1913 by the pregrouping GWR. This tank was a BEAST, and became one of the standard class of outside cylinder tank engines for the GWR. It was designed by George Jackson Churchwood and built by Swindon works. There was only ever 1 produced. It was considered a failed experiment and spent most of its life in Birmingham. Shortly after Grouping, the 4600 tank engine was withdrawn and scrapped in 1925. What a shame.
