I started working on this HO layout build last year and have been posting updates on both my YouTube channel, as well as a forum. In order to introduce the layout here, I figured the best way to do so was show the track plan first. This layout was created by James Hilton. I had about a 9’ x 9’ space to work with, so this is what we came up with. It is essentially a switching layout but incorporates key locations for the GMRC.
Benchwork is L-Girder design but also built in 4 separate modules that can be disassembled and transported if ever needed.
Track work is Peco flex track with Peco turnouts. That includes some #5, #6, and one curved #7.
Operations include freight operations for 4 different industries as well as occasional excursion trains using the Green Mountain Flyer. The industries include a mix of past and present industries found on the line. These are an ethanol transfer facility at North Walpole yard, a transload platform at Bellows Falls Yard, M & M construction in Chester and Erskine Grain & Garden in Chester as well. There are also two passenger stations, one in Bellows Falls and the other in Chester.
Controls are DCC using an NCE power cab with two ports allowing for two operators, one working freight and the other working the excursion train.
There’s lots to do with this layout and it’s been quite enjoyable to work on so far:)
