| About me | Greetings from San Diego County, California. I got started in model railroading in the spring of 2024. I’m planning or working on a collection of micro-layouts, in several scales, in some combination of DC, DCC, and deadrail. So far I’m playing with N, HO, On30, and G. Maybe Z, HOn30, and others one day. I’m interested in railroads due to family history research (kinfolk with ICRR, ET&WNC, L&N, Eastman Chemical, Cranberry Iron & Coal, TJ Moss Tie Company). I became interested in model railroading, thanks to our local train and model railroad museums, and the Model Railroad Talk podcast. Old-school layouts I’d seen on TV or in magazines never caught my attention. But today’s beautifully detailed layouts, and trains with realistic movement and sound? Sign me up! I joined the NMRA, and have been to the national convention in Long Beach, the Pacific Coast Region’s convention in San Luis Obispo in 2025, and the Pacific Southwest Region’s Convention in 2025. I’m in the San Diego Division, and am helping to plan and host the 2026 convention in San Diego. I have a Facebook page for my “Frontier & Pacific Historic Railworks,” where I can post endless modeling photos without annoying my normal friends. Just recently I’ve created another Facebook page, “San Diego Area Train & Railroad Scale Modelers,” to share the hobby (with anyone, anywhere), and to publicize local events, clubs, stores, etc. I’m also on TrainOrders as @RailFam. Other interests/background: writing/author, Aikido, Highland games, fitness, old-time & folk music (including train songs!), ADHD & neurodivergence, horses & donkeys, aviation, ham radio, gardening, software development, technical communication. |
