When I was 8 I had a Triang railway set and mimic car set until middle teens, then some many in fact 2015 I started again running OO for about 2 years, when i downside the house and my trains to N scale .

I have 16 meters long in a u shape 2 tracks running DCC++EX and 1 Track which runs DC switchable to DCC

DCC is using JMRI, a Arduino Mega + DCC++EX Motor Shield and WiFi Shield. DCC concepts Intelligent Circuit Breaker 1 track is switchable DC to DCC++EX. Using Arduino Mega , Arduino used for some Lighting Setups, Megapoint controllers for block detection. also a TomyTech moving Bus system.
