Hot Take: there should be switching puzzle starter sets.
Model Railroading Hot Take: manufacturers or hobby stores should sell Inglnook switching puzzle starter sets. Include 8 cars that are the same size, the loco, track required and a transformer. It would be a great way to introduce the operations side of the hobby to new model railroaders.

I like the idea, but a lot of people still want to see their trains go round. Besides that a set with an engine, eight cars, two switches and power supply would get too expensive for a starter.
You can do operations with just one switch as well, but most sidings coming with a starterset are just used to stall more rolling stock.

@genxdiorama I’m not saying all starter sets, just have it as one of them. It would be an expensive starter set but I figure it would probably be in the same realm at Bachmann’s overland set, which comes with 9 cars and a loco. Really the idea is to have an out of the box game that could cater to the table top gaming crowd. Maybe make an “expansion” set for it that gives you more turnouts for a time saver.

I agree, and I wish ALL starter sets came with at least a siding. The ovals get boring so fast (although that may be intentional…)
