One of my most prized models from one of my favorite fictional railroads.
If you’ve read Model Railroader Magazine in the last 30 years or so it is very likely you have glimpsed into Eric Brooman’s HO-Scale Utah Belt.
It is always a pleasure to read about his layout and see the changes that have taken place, both with the layout itself and the rolling stock and locomotives. As Mr. Brooman keeps the layout in the current time frame, that means that has equipment is retired off the roster it is often sold to others. Such pieces have become highly sought after.
I was very lucky to come across an eBay listing from Mr. Brooman himself for this customized KATO HO-scale AC4400CW, UB 4459.
It was a right place right time situation as I won the auction even though it was way above what I would have normally paid for a straight DC locomotive.Once it arrived I had my friend and DCC installation wizard Logan Allen install DCC and ESU Loksound into the locomotive. He even put custom sounds on it for me with the addition of a Leslie RS5T horn, one of my favorite horn types.
4459 is used on my layout as run through power, usually on coal trains that come onto the CPKC from the Union Pacific at Kings Gate B.C./Eastport, Idaho (at least that’s the story I’m telling myself, haha!).
