Amtrak’s new Phase VII scheme looks good on just about anything it touches it seems.
Here we see it on GP38-3 740, a new run from Atlas with DCC and ESU Loksound.
These units were rebuilt by Progress Rail from ex-Conrail GP38’s. While Amtrak mainly uses them for Maintenance of Way and yard switching duties in the north east, Chicago and the Auto Train terminals, they also have seen passenger service as stand in locomotives on the Downeaster, Berkshire Flyer and other trains which use push-pull operations.
