One mans “trash” is another mans treasure!

My model railroad club has been thinning out the rolling stock fleet to get rid of cars that either were road names that were not relevant to the era being modeled, non local road names, or were simply to large to fit through some of the curved tunnels on the layout.

As a result I grabbed these three cars recently from the group for dirt cheap at 10 bucks (USD) per car!

The flat car and wood chip hopper will be great on through manifest trains while the Cotton Belt caboose will be used with my Southern Pacific fleet.

You have the right idea. In real life equipment from a particular line can be scattered around the country. When trackage became standardized it was easier to move freight around the country without having to unload and load freight to keep rolling stock on their respective lines. Even loco’s can be found all over the place. I seen ferromex and Union Pacific in Newark, New Jersey. Whereas in the very early years, equipment stayed only that companies trackage.
