Amtrak’s new Phase VII scheme looks good on just about anything it touches it seems.

Here we see it on GP38-3 740, a new run from Atlas with DCC and ESU Loksound.
These units were rebuilt by Progress Rail from ex-Conrail GP38’s. While Amtrak mainly uses them for Maintenance of Way and yard switching duties in the north east, Chicago and the…

VIA Rail train number 1, the Canadian, with a colorful quartet of F40PH-2D’s for power. These were taken last year at the TVMRi club’s open house on Founders Day Weekend at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.
When I started modeling Canadian railways it was a goal of mine to have this impressive cross country train in my fleet.

    Three of the…

My Royal Canadian Pacific consist is slowly beginning to grow!

With the arrival of the new Rapido 3/4 Dome-Lounge car yesterday my RCP train has a total of three cars ready for service.
In addition to the CP 3605 dome car, I’ve also got the former baggage/power car CP 95 (a custom build by myself) and Steam Generator car 96.
    I’m still waiting for…

This has been a long awaited item for sure.
Canadian Pacific dome/lounge car 3605, the Selkirk.
Built for the Southern Pacific as a 3/4 dome car, it now serves on the Royal Canadian Pacific business train for CPKC and even was part of the Final Spike Steam Tour with the Empress herself, CP H1b Hudson 2816.

This car was made by Rapido Trains Inc.

    Rapido MLW’s.

BCOL 641, a M420W, leads two M420B’s (683 and 685) around the TVMRi club layout.
These Rapido units were offered in sets. The two M420B’s came in a set together while the 641 came with a matching green B unit. A friend of mine sold me the 641 as they only wanted the B unit from that set, giving me a unique consist of two…

Over the Christmas holiday of 2024, Norfolk Southern opened their headquarters building in Atlanta, GA to local modular model railroad club North Georgia Modurail for a public display.
My step son and I went down to visit the display the day after Christmas to see the layout. It a quiet day in downtown Atlanta which was pretty nice and there…

We are all set up for Founders Day at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum and the Tennessee Valley Model Railroaders Inc.
If you are in the area of Chattanooga, TN this weekend, September 6th and 7th, come by the museum and also check out the club layout as we will be there from 10 to 3 EST.

Prepping my consist I’ll be taking to the club this weekend for the open house.
Southern Pacific ALCO PA/B-2’s 6043 and 5922 will power an excursion consist.
These Rapido locomotives are equipped with ESU Lok pilot DCC decoders and there for do not have sound. That said, they are still two of my favorite models to run. The detail on them is…

It isn’t often when one can get their pets involved in model railroading, but way back in 2021 that’s exactly what happened.

Here we see my favorite little dwarf hamster, Gardivour was her name. She use to love to crawl and run and explore the house after we moved in, usually within her hamster ball. However, once in a while I would let her…

    Diesel Hydraulic.

D&RGW 4003 arrives into Harriman with a reefer train. This model is from PIKO and comes with DCC and sound.
Shortly after this photo was taken I started patching and renumbering this model into a Southern Pacific engine.

A rather rare piece of rolling stock in my collection is this Rapido Trains Inc sleeper painted for the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway. Number 200 was named the Chickamauga Pine when it was built by Pullman.
This model was made by Rapido sometime in the 2010’s and now is highly sought after by L&N and NC&St.L Modelers.

    It’s a fun…

    KATO models in HO-scale.
In my eyes, KATO models have some of the smoothest motors in the industry. While they have their issues too like the competition, their products are very solid.
Here is a sample of some of the KATO locomotives in my collection.

Amtrak P42DC 100, Midnight Blue Heritage unit.

A new structure project landed on my desk yesterday from a couple of friends and long time supporters of my Youtube Channel. Brothers Ken and Richard Oehrig both own K&R Custom Models. They specialize in 3D Printed signals for the O and G scale market. Back when I modeled in O I used some of their signals on my layout and we became friends in…

One of my most prized models from one of my favorite fictional railroads.
If you’ve read Model Railroader Magazine in the last 30 years or so it is very likely you have glimpsed into Eric Brooman’s HO-Scale Utah Belt.
It is always a pleasure to read about his layout and see the changes that have taken place, both with the layout itself and…
