Help I'm New 🙂
Hello I just bought the Amfleet 2, Viewliner 1 Intercity Express Phase VI 3-Car Set and also bought the starter set that connected the whole train together besides the baggage car. My question is can I make my layout more interesting in terms of the track not being a basic oval or is it ok? This is my first layout so any helpful tips or opinions would be appreciated below is my track plan so far I am planning on adding more into the town but haven’t gotten that far yet my curves are 18″ and the table I decided to go with is 4 by 8 also I am using kato track it seems the easiest to use for beginners but if you think other wise let me know thank you 🙂

You can do whatever you want and that part of the joy of model railroading. Me? I’d add a yard inside the oval for the Amtrak cars.

@KingBradentucky Thank you for replying I was thinking of adding a yard on the left side with another table added eventually but I could try to see if i can add one in the oval.👍

Welcome to the community!
I agree that it is totally up to what you like yourself. My personal opinion is that scenery is what brings a layout to life so I really like your plans for the scenery.
I think that will make the layout look awesome 🙋🏼♂️

@Oscar Thank you for replying I hope I can make the scenery pop out I am very excited to see it all come together I will be posting updates so hopefully you will be able to check it out. Right now I am just saving money to build the benchwork I was thinking of going with model railroad benchwork since i don’t have any tools 👍

Are you just interested in running Amtrak or any passenger operations? If so, maybe put the station on the main line and use the turnouts to create a siding if you can. You can often find stations with sidings that allow other traffic to pass by while passengers get on/off the train.

@Guilford_Railman I am really interested in passenger trains operations I will work on my layout later today and put the train station on the main line but I am a little confused on what you mean by creating a siding with turnouts but i can watch a video on youtube maybe that will give me a better idea on what you mean or if you could explain it a little more I would appreciate it thank you 👍

@Scoopie A siding is a section of track that allows a train to pass by another train. For instance, when two trains are headed towards one another on the same track, one train will be routed to the siding and stopped while the other passes by.

I have a layout, very much a work in progress. Have an Amtrak station on a siding from one of the mainlines.
