The bands would last for a long while until they dry out.  I have received some locomotives that the bands were still good after years of not running.  But then again after a few laps they break loose lol.  Ebay has several places to reorder bands if needed. In different colors. It was just a matter of really paying attention to wire routing. the two outer switches control the tower lights and flasher, and the center switch controls the lift bridge itself.  It is designed as to extend the wiring externally to the edge of a layout.</p>
