Lets take a poll here and get to know each other better. Favorite locomotive, favorite scale, and reasons behind your choices. For me, it’s hard to narrow it down to one locomotive, but my HO Scale Shay is up there on the list. Gotta love those mountain engines and my wife and I rode a train pushed by a shay on our honeymoon. My favorite Scale overall is obviously Z Scale because it’s a lot of fun and I have my own business. Join in. It’ll be fun!

Favourite engine by far for me is the kkStB 306.02 (4-4-0 wheel arrangement) and fave scale is H0/00 (though I do own a couple N and G scale models too).
The kkStB 306.02 is one of only 5 ever built of this class (3 for the kkStB, 2 for the SB) and used to pull the Imperial-Royal Train of Austria as well as the Orient Express throughout Austria. She is one of only very few engines in general that have been fitted with “Blue Russian Steel” as boiler plating, which changes the shade of blue with temperature. I also have a soft spot for 4-4-0s in general.
The reason why I model H0/00 is simply because it’s – in my opinion – the widest range with the biggest offer of models and also the main scale model railway clubs build their layouts in Austria. Besides, I work in a model railway shop and H0 is the over all main selling scale here.

@ImperialExpress306.02 The Orient Express is definitely a neat train! I’ve seen them in Z Scale and they were available at one time.

My favourite locomotive has always been the EMD F7. I have N, HO and O. I’d say my favourite is N. The club I belong to has both N and HO, and I have an HO switching layout and an N scale T-TRAK layout as well as a coffee table layout I am working on. My O scale stuff mainly only comes out at Christmas and goes around the tree.

@Andrew I feel like if you’re in model railroading in any scale you gotta have an F7! I remember growing up in HO Scale and everyone had a Santa Fe Red War Bonnet F7. I have F7s in HO, N, & Z. My latest one is a Z Scale AZL Erie Lackawanna A & B set. Here it is on my Christmas Micro Layout!

Favourite locomotive IRL is the Victorian Railways R Class. Can’t pass up a classic steam loco. Favourite model loco is probably my HO scale NR class, but only because I don’t have that many locos at the moment, and the NR is the only recent one with DCC and sound fitted so it kind of wins by default. I’ve only ever worked with HO scale so that’s easily my favourite, but I have modelled an L-Gauge SBB Krokodil as well.

@ScottyB That sounds awesome! I really like UK & Australian steam. Hornby does great HO/OO UK steamers. Do you have any pictures of the Crocodile Locomotive? That sounds neat in Lego! Marklin made a Crocodile in Z Scale that I’d like to add to the collection eventually.

Another one for me would be these two Z Scale AZL Penn Central Alco RS-3s. My grandfather worked through the entire short-lived duration of the Penn Central and my mother recalls him operating these same locomotives.
