Amtrak Rainbow Era!
May 1st 1971, Amtrak makes it’s big debut. Thanks to Kato, we have that set right here in N Scale. Pulled by Ex Penn Central E8 4316 with a mix of Amtrak & Penn Central passenger cars. I added the New York Central coach on the back!

I had not seen these before and was surprised after thinking of Amtrak liveries as always having that lighter background. Nice looking loco!

@BigReverserKeyRR similar trains like this were all over the country. When Amtrak took over passenger rail they didn’t have enough sleek chrome coaches like we see today so they used the ones from the old railroads in whatever areas. Do a google search of the Amtrak Rainbow Era and there’s tons of different combinations.

@BigReverserKeyRR Twenty (20) out of twenty-six (26) eligible railroads participated in Amtrak in 1971. As US_Z_Scale stated, these railroads contributed cars and financial support and relinquished their passenger services to the newly formed Amtrak. Hence the ‘Rainbow Era’. Amtrak was VERY colorful for several years!! It’s a very cool time to model Amtrak!
