I built this ‘O’ gauge diorama in April 2025 for Hornby Magazine and our ‘Key Model World Diorama Challenge’ video series (which you can watch on YouTube and keymodelworld.com) I used the large Scale Model Scenery baseboard and all the parts were mostly supplied by Ellis Clark Trains – apart from a few 3D printed items that I found on eBay and some extra details like brass rodding.
The Black 5 was spare parts, left over from the tooled samples before the final models came to the market, so it was already missing a lot. The diorama was inspired from photos of Cashmore scrap yard, where there were mountains (literally) of locomotive smoke boxes, cylinders and parts. It’s a sad sight, but it was a challenge to model and I’m extremely proud of it.
