KATO models in HO-scale.
In my eyes, KATO models have some of the smoothest motors in the industry. While they have their issues too like the competition, their products are very solid.
Here is a sample of some of the KATO locomotives in my collection.Amtrak P42DC 100, Midnight Blue Heritage unit.
Union Pacific SD40-2 1996, Atlanta Olympic Torch Relay (Custom painted)
Union Pacific C44-9W 9660, Ex-Southern Pacific repaint.
Canadian Pacific AC4400CW 9532, Beaver Logo scheme.

If you get a chance, there are some good videos with tours of the factory and you begin to see why they do such a good job.

Their EF510 is probably amongst the finest locos imaginable. Superb value, smooth running and the pulling power of an ox.

It ain’t just your eyes. Everyone pretty much unanimously agrees that Kato is the gold standard for mechanisms. They may not quite have the detail of BLI or ScaleTrains but they sure run the best. And great performance is better than super fine scale detail imo.
