What is your absolute “must be Kato” model? A model so good that no one else who makes it gets a look in.

Unfortunately their range in American HO is rather limited these days. I do like their Dash 9’s and AC4400CW’s. While their GE P42’s are also good…the way their motors are designed and built into the trucks leaves a lot to be desired and makes them not DCC Ready at all and very hard to convert unless you happen to get a kobo special that already has ESU.
As for their N-scale range, they make a lot of solid stuff. My step son does N and we have bought him several KATO locomotives. The latest we got him were a pair of the new Amtrak ALC-42’s for his birthday.2
