Here’s a pair of micro layouts I’ve built. The smallest one is built in a small presentation case for a set of knives. I got it with some parts for a display case in it and felt that I NEEDED to squeeze a layout of some sort inside it. Not only that, but I wanted it to be completely self-contained. Complete with the train and extra tracks stored inside. I managed to achieve that aim and have set up and operated the layout on the tray table of an international flight as well as on a train. Layout is operated by a 9V battery.

The larger layout is in a case that I built myself. The double track can run two trains independently and was built for my train-loving nephews at the other end of the aforementioned international flight. Yes, I took two micro layouts on the plane with me from Australia, but only brought one back.
Layout operates from a small switch mode plug pack. Like the smaller layout, everything stores away inside the case.

Playing trains on a train. Because you can never have too much train.

Short video of the layout in operation on a train in operation.

I do have a video of shunting, but it’s too long to upload here.

That’s really neat! I like how you can extend them beyond the cases! Excellent job!

@US_Z_Scale not much room to do anything entirely within the confines of the smaller one. So extending the track beyond the case was the only alternative. I could easily make a continuous layout with it. However, not all of the track and supports would then fit inside. But certainly possible with a slightly larger case.
