🌍 Community Check-in + Exciting Goals
Hi everyone,
I hope you’re all doing well! 🚆 I’d love to hear from you:
👉 How are you doing?
👉 And how do you like the platform so far?Behind the scenes, I’m working hard every day to keep improving ModelTrainMedia. Right now, I’m also reaching out to content creators and partners to help spread the word about our platform.
We’ve set ourselves a big goal: 1,000 members before the end of this year.
But I can’t do this alone — I truly need your help. By staying active, sharing your projects, and supporting each other, we can build an inspiring, welcoming community that keeps growing. So let’s keep the conversations rolling, keep the trains running, and make ModelTrainMedia the best place for model railway fans worldwide. 🙌
Drop a comment below — I’d love to hear how you’re experiencing things and what you’d like to see next!

Your work for the community is very much appreciated!
As for my train projects, I have several DIY projects on hold at the moment, both in N scale and T scale… Work and family matters have completely eroded away any time and energy I would need for that. Hopefully it will normalize a little after this week.
In the back of my head another idea have been growing -inspired by the move of my mother-in-law to an assisted living facility: Many residents there have had history either with model trains directly and/or woodwork. I want to enable people to have a creative outlet by having pre-cut out wood buildings for people to assemble and paint – and put on a G scale modular train layout.

@BananaTie That sounds like an awesome project about the wooden kits, I think it is a challenge for all of hobbyist to combine it with all other things that need to be done in a day. Sometimes model trains are something you leave for a week and then you start again!

I see a lot of potential here. I’m not sure that the feed vs discussions on the individual groups is catching on; I see most of the activity in feeds and it doesn’t seem like we’re digging further yet. I do like the separation of quick “ephemeral” posts vs longer term discussions.

@Dielectric I also think that however I think that it is just a matter of getting new members to the platform. When we get to 1000 sign ups there will be a good base for all of the different components within the platform such as forums and groups and activity feed!

I think it’s off to a decent start, like most things it’ll have it’s teething issues.
Further to the point @Dielectric raised, I’m also not sure about the idea of feeds, groups, and forums all existing, at least at the moment. The natural discourse to me suggests that there will be topic-specific discussions in groups that will occur and they will bubble back up from time-to-time as new contributions are made; or there will simply be multiple discussions on the same subject as people will prefer to go to a specific group and ask the question directly over browsing/searching the forum. We’ll see I guess, but at this stage I’m personally struggling to see the need for all three levels of communication/discussion across feeds, groups, and forums. Perhaps it’ll change when there’s a lot more members and it becomes harder to keep track of discussions, but I’m seeing more of the specifics about a photo or video that has been posted by someone as opposed to a broader discussion like “How do you/how to wire your DCC layout?”

@ScottyB I get that point and the I was thinking that by adding the forum it would lower the bar for users who are currently just using old fashioned forums to sign up here. But lets wait how it turns out and if we see in a couple of months that it is not adding any real value then we can vote as community if it should stay or not. Does that sound like a good idea?

@Modeltrainmedia yeah I think that’s reasonable, even if it doesn’t work out now after a few months of trial it doesn’t mean it can’t come back again in the future if the community grows and needs another avenue to manage communications.

I would love for this to be an app soon. I’m sure it’s expensive to make happen but it would be real neat to have this more accessible!

@Isaac That is also my goal so know it is top off the list but indeed first I need some sponsors/advertisers before I can make it happen. And welcome to the community by the way Isaac!

Im really enjoying this site. I often find judgement on other platforms saying I show off to much, but I don’t like talking about other stuff online except trains so this site has been perfect for me!

@ravenhawk6910 Sounds great, and when we grow the community to a larger audience then there is even more people who will view all content and participate!
