More track ballasted/weathered. Most of the yard is now ballasted. Still have other things to do before having this entire side done.

That is a nice job and thank you for a good example of how crossing track works. I kept wondering what a railyard situation might be where you wouldn’t have a system of switches or double-slips but that looks like a great layout for switching puzzles or shunting work. Is that from a prototype or where’d the design come from?

@BigReverserKeyRR The plan is based on Model Railroader’s Salt Lake Route they did years ago. That layout was a 4×9, mine is a 4×8 so I’ve made a few modifications. Their plan uses a double crossover which I feel is unrealistic so I went with two single crossovers. I still had to use the diamond in the yard to get to the engine house as I didn’t have space for two turnouts. There’s enough yard trackage for a train to make pickups/setouts if I choose and to work one of the industries. This layout is more for watching trains run than operations, I’m planning on building a larger layout on the other side of the room for my eastern U.S. stuff.
