Welcome! I will be sharing my journey of modeling in N-Scale as I construct a 4’x10′ layout.

I have no experience modeling / model railroading outside of running a small oval train as a pre-teen. I dreamt model railroading would be a retirement hobby, but recently found the inspiration to start now, call it my midlife crisis; way cooler than a Corvette if ya ask me.

My wife recently surprised me with Lionel train set, which is something I never thought I’d ever own; too expensive, too much space required. I guess she noticed the child in me appears when the trains pass through town or how I insist on taking the train instead of flying or that my bucket list contains scenic railroad excursions.

I rushed to assemble the Lionel Fastrack to get the gorgeous Berkshire puffing smoke around the living room. We sat there like children admiring the detail and got lost in wanderlust of railroading, “This is so cool”, she said. I laughed, she didn’t know I had been stockpiling N-scale stuff for years in those paper ream boxes hidden in the closet.

“If you think this is cool, I got something to show ya”, I shared. I pulled out the few boxes of N-scale stuff I had in storage and explained how I had hoped to get into model railroading in retirement. She encouraged me to give it a go now, so I’m going to make a go at a layout. I will use this channel to document the journey, hope you enjoy!
