Track Work - The Mainline Crossover
One of the most important sections of track on the layout is the crossover between the double mainlines that is placed front-and-center on the layout. I toyed around with the placement of this crossover for a while before choosing this spot, since it will allow trains to come out of the reversing loop in the yard and move straight to the outer mainline.
I started work on the crossover on December 7th, 2025, when I test-fit the switches in different locations to determine where best to place them. December 8th, I glued down the first switch, an Atlas Code 80 #8 left hand. I gave the glue a full day to harden fully before putting in the second switch on December 9th. In time, I would add Caboose Industries ground throws, but that will be covered in a future post.
The first train (just a locomotive) went through the Crossover on December 10th.
