• Track Work - Caboose Industries Ground Throws

All the switches on my layout (for now, at least), are utilizing Caboose Industries ground throws. These ground throws are small, relatively inexpensive (in comparison to motorized switch machines) mechanisms that function similar to actual switch levers. The majority of the switches on the layout use #206S. This model features internal springs that press on the points to hold them in place. 5 of my switches use #105R, which are designed to extended linkages. I will discuss these in greater detail in the following post.

#206S is extremely easy to install. First, you need to do is connect the ground throw to the throwbar of the switch. For my Atlas switches, I had to drill out the hole on the throwbar a little bit, then I fit the post on one side of the ground throw into the hole. There is also a hole on the ground throw that can be used for PECO, or other brand switches. Following that, I applied a bit of glue to the bottom, moved the ground throw’s lever into a vertical position, and aligned the points of the switch in the middle. I secured the ground throws in place with small nails.
