Track Work - Completing the Mainlines + The Temporary Extension
Once all the switches were installed, I was able to finish permanent work on the mainlines, which consisted of only a few sections on the northern end of the yard. But that wasn’t enough. I wanted to run trains continuously, which wasn’t possible since I’m only building one half of the layout at the moment. That is, until I set up a temporary extension in the area that will lead to the second half in time. This temporary extension is not built very sturdily. It is literally just a horizontal 2×4 that runs from the end of the existing benchwork to a vertical 2×4 that forms part of the old closet wall (which was torn down recently). Extending from the horizonal 2×4 is two additional 2x4s. Glued to the top of these 2x4s is a sheet of foam. Its not very strong and not very level, but its only meant to last a few months.
With the completion of the temporary extension, I can now run trains on both mainlines continuously. I have attached a video showcasing the temporary extension.
