Business at the store is slower today (likely because of the snow), so I have some time to pay attention to the trains that are going by. I grew up on a branch line (both CN and CP on either side of the harbour) that serviced a grain elevator and a foundry on the CN side and a few different industries (such as Monroe, PPG and Good Year) on the CP side, with an interchange at the “land” end of the harbour. As a result, the freight cars I got to see were mostly boxcars and covered hoppers, with the occasional flat car for large foundry loads and gondola. As a result, I seem to be gravitated to modeling branch lines and the bulk of my collection is boxcars and covered hoppers.
