Overpriced Models (not)
It seems to be a common theme on media, how expensive the hobby is. With Loco’s/DMU’s coming out at £400 to £600 and individuals Loco’s with sound fetching £250 to £400, it would seem that way. However, as others have pointed out, these prices are actually not that bad if you consider for inflation and take into account all the bells and whistles they come with {sound, firebox flicker, smoke, working fans and detailed parts}. Hornby tends to be the main one getting a bashing, but ironically they are the ones “keeping it real” with Railroad and HM7000 sound. Take the humble Class 08, over £300 with auto uncoupler and £250 with the other suppliers, yet you can get a Railroad Hornby with sound and blue tooth control for just £108! If you want the latest greatest, yes, they are expensive, but if you shop around and are happy with a more basic model (even with sound) they can be had at much more pocket friendly prices!

while I agree regarding the rational of the prices. It is a little bit of a deterrent to get novices into the hobby.
