I joined an N scale club!
I joined the local N scale club! The club is known for displaying NTRAK and TTRAK module layouts within the region.
I attended the big kick-off the year meeting / auction this past weekend. Half of the meeting was to handle club business, talk budget, elect officials, meet-and-greet and the other half was fundraising opportunity for the club; members could purchase donated items from the club’s store, bid in silent auctions, and participate in live auctions.
I had a blast meeting so many modelers and I didn’t even get to chat with the majority of folks, guys were very welcoming and quite funny…I had a lot of laughs for just meeting these guys! My only social club has been work for many years, so I look forward to getting involved with the club.
I discovered the club a few months ago when they were selling to the public at a train yard sale at the local railroad museum. Then, I scored an MicroAce SD7 in B&O paint because it was explained to me that a member transported it back from Japan aboard a flight, so not something common. I love unique things and the B&O road name, so I had to own it! There was a pair of them, so I was hoping the brother was still in the store’s inventory some months later. It was, Sweet! Now, I’m a proud owner of matching handsome SD7’s that run like a top.
The club store’s inventory was superior to the local hobby shop’s N-scale inventory, I was super surprised and impressed…I was able to score things I’ve been hunting / on my wishlist! I collect MTL single dome oil tanker cars, I don’t know why I have an affinity for them, but I do, and added three of them! I got a few box cars because I am still trying to sort what I like.
I scored an NTRAK module transport case, it is constructed with 1/4 ply and poplar, all screws are countersunk and puddied. I don’t have a module yet, but know I would rather spend time building a module than a case for it, W for the future!
I scored three BL-2 locos…BL-2 and Trainmaster are my favorite diesels…call me weird, I don’t mind. I’m thrilled to add more to the collection…time for BL-2 consists, wahoo! I have zero Trainmaster models, now I can starting hunting some. 🙂
I scored a pair of B&O KATO E8/E9 Powered A units after a bidding battle. Wow, they are powerhouses on the layout…had them pulling 40 cars at only 1/2 power when I got home…insane!
The only DCC loco that came home was an Atlas VO-1000 switcher in Western Maryland paint…I am a sucker for anything with the WM fireball. Most of my switchers are Western Maryland already, so it’s got a good home.
The most spontaneous buy was an Atlas U25B in Norfolk & Western paint…auctioneer was putting it back due to no bids, so I bid because “TRAINS” (say it shouting)…I’m not familiar with this model, but this road name is harder to come by, so I’m happy to run it and learn about it.
I hope you have a club near you and you consider joining. The world needs more fun, let’s give it to world! Happy day to ya!
