I think part of the future of model railroading is all about railroaders connecting with makers to get distinctive rolling stock and layout structures. Kitbashing such as putting a new body/shell on an existing locomotive is more and more popular, but let’s face we can’t all set up a 3D printing shop to support our hobby. One maker I’ve met I’ve been impressed with was Dan from Out of the Box Models. He makes interesting rolling stock anywhere from special versions of RS32’s to an entire consist of the legendary 1956 PRR Keystone “Tubular Train”.
Specializing in N gauge and 1:72 scale models but definitely ping him if you want something else! Another great thing about dealing with makers is that you can actually talk to them, talk to the person actually doing the work. I keep hearing so many frustration stories from people dealing with big companies online, that alone is reason to consider purchasing from a more focused seller.
Have a visit and say hi to Dan for me!
