• First Kit Bash

I wanted a work shop / welding shop / back shop type building. Model Power has a cool sawtooth roof diesel house, but I don’t have the real estate for it, so when I saw the smaller variant, I got excited. I felt like I could create a building that would achieve the look of the larger kit within the available real estate.

This building is a mix of one prebuilt Pola unit from the train shop and a new old stock Model Power kit from eBay. I’m discovering manufacturers used the same mold / tooling…

I needed to dissemble the built Pola unit because the door was on the opposite side of the building. I achieved this by adding plastic cement to the joints to soften the existing weld and gentled pried the pieces apart; re-welded pieces in new orientation. I sanded off the sidewalks since they’re not needed. I placed a piece of styrene between each interior section so I can light them differently. I shaved down the roof exhaust vents because the cap didn’t feel to scale. I added styrene downspouts to cover the seams, which added a nice touch. I painted the brick with a brown wash and then painted individual bricks with a toothpick at random with three natural colors. Finished roof off with Testor’s Metallic enamel.

What do think of the result?

      Thanks for riding along!
