The NZR model scene.
I think in some degree the lesser modeled railways/railroad hold more of an interest, basically because there is usually something that is not often seen or heard of before. And it draws our attention more than the standard topics.
I could of easily modeled American, British, European but I wanted something that would turn heads. Something different.
I have over the years modeled US, British before. In both N and HO. But always felt like i was following others. So I took the plunge and went to New Zealand Railways in 1/64th scale. (S scale).
The challenge with this is apart from some really reputable wagon and locomotive manufacturers from NZ there is next to nothing you can buy off the shelf. Be prepared to scratch build for this scale. Some HO kits can potentially pass off but most of the buildings/ structures are scratch built. So i have started off and its quite rewarding knowing you have a building in your layout that no one else has. I have a youtube channel that’s following along as I go. Trying to promote the scale and country modeled.
I guess my motto is “Be different, take on the challenge”. You may just like it!.
