• Hi,

My name is Ian and I live on the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire border. I am 66 years old and took early retirement four years ago. My interest in railways started in 1963 at the age of 3, steam still ruled although diesel was being introduced at great speed. My father bought me my first train set, I think it was for him more than me though. I continued with train sets until I was about thirteen and then found that playing with Girls was more enjoyable.

During my working career although I still had the interest, I just didn’t have the time to do any hobbies. Covid arrived with a bang and although I was in a Key Worker, I had an accident at work and ended up being off sick for quite some time. During that time I found that a little company would deliver whatever you wanted the very next day and from then to now I have knelt at the alter of Amazon. (I use the retailers now). Thus my interest in model railways was rekindled, building various layouts over the past five years which never seemed to be finished before I ripped it up and started again.

My latest project is “No Wherry To Go” an OO gauge DCC layout which is 21’ x 9’ double deck. It is broadly based on the WHERRY LINES of Norfolk and Suffolk. When I say broadly I mean very broadly, Norfolk and Suffolk are flat my layout has hills. Lowestoft is a Terminus Station, my Lowestaft is a through line and the list goes on. So Rule One is very much applied.

I hope you enjoy my posts.

      Ian
