I may have a chance to snag a postwar Lionel 2026 and a whistle tender for $100. Should i do it?

If you think it’s a good buy do it.

@RobsTrains I don’t know if its a good buy, that’s why I’m asking. I don’t know if $100 is a good price for a 2026 + tender from 1953. It appears to be in good shape cosmetically from the pictures.

I would go 70 tops, but honestly I would avoid anything with slider shoe pickups. For the same price you can get something with roller pickups. And I’ve never been excited about a prarie, I’ve always liked Hudsons more.

@Blair88mph Its not the prairie one. Its the 1951-53 version, which is 2-6-4 and (I think judging by pictures) roller pickups. It lacks the detailed valve gear stuff and separately applied handrails that the 1948-49 prairie one has though.

Is there a possibility to physically inspect prior to purchase? and test as well.

@casey-jones Possibly. He lives an hour away though so I don’t know if that will work.

It would be a shame to pay and have it shipped only for it not to work

How did you make out?
