Welcome to a great hobby! One of my favorite part of the hobby is sharing it with family and friends. Been modeling since I was a kid in the 1980s.

Decide your scale, then your era. Find a club near you and visit it. See what members run, what’s on the layout, how often do they meet, etc. After that, what line will you model? UP, BNSF, CPKC or a smaller line. Are you more interested in passenger trains? Once those questions are answered, you can begin to purchase.
