Got the ballasting done on my 2ft by 4ft diorama. I learned some new tricks to make the ballast look better than on past layouts. These include using 91% isopropyl alcohol and using a pipette for applying the glue.
I found that if you apply the glue using the pipette on your ties you get the cleanest look. The glue washes the tie clean of any ballast and flows off where it is needed. If you apply the glue directly to the ballast it can bounce onto the ties.
Tapping the ties with a paintbrush handle before applying the isopropyl alcohol also helps to clear them of ballast.
Half is solid now, the other half is drying. I might try to clean up some of the ties more using a razor once all is dry to clear off any rogue stones, but otherwise I’m really happy how this turned out.
