Consist with all or part sound?
New here, so not sure where this belongs. I looked in Forums, but there doesn’t seem to be any activity there. Please forgive and direct appropriately.
Considering a major purchase of multiple modern locos, likely Scaletrains ET44’s, to run in a consist. I would like at least one to have sound, but have wondered about whether it is worth the expense to do all of them.
What would you do? Sound in one, some or all? FWIW I am thinking buying “stealth” and installing Sountraxx Tsunami 2 and/or Econami. Feedback on that is welcome as well.

Hi and welcome. My 2 cents…. it depends… 😀. I have a few AB sets of F3s and F7s. Some I have with sound in both and some I have with sound just in the A unit. I really do not mind just having sound in a single unit of a two unit consist. it does not bother me. If i were running a 4 unit consist I would probably go with sound in 2 units and just place the sound units in between the non-sound units. Honestly, iMHO, there can be (or is) a situation where there is too much sound or more correctly the sound is just too loud for the scale or even the room the layout is in, it gets distracting… again, IMHO. I think the sounds levels used are set way too high but most like the loud sounds and that is fine. (my dad did) I run my sounds much lower and what i consider in line with the scale (HO). I like to be able to talk over my running trains if needed and not have to yell to people 5 feet away from me. But that is just me. So, it really just depends. I would say try one unit with sound and run it within however big your consist is. see what YOU think. then go from there.

@zak98 Thank you for your input! I agree on the sound volume. I have dialed that back on many of mine.

Being still relatively new to the hobby my fleet of locomotives is not very large. Three of my locomotives are dcc and only one has a sound decoder.
From what I have found is my desire for sound will typically change depending on what I’m doing. I think it comes down to what you’re in the mood for.
