Shelf Layout Benchwork Ideas
Anyone have any suggestions for easy benchwork for a shelf layout? I’ve been working on a 4ft by 2ft diorama to practice my scenery skills and now that I’m almost done with it I’m thinking I might want to extend it into a shelf layout. I’ve got about a 10ft section along the back wall of my home office where I’m thinking of adding the layout.
Ideally I would have storage space below the layout. Ideas I’m considering are:
1) Get some lumber, build a few sets of legs and just put some 2by4s on top to hold the plywood
2) Get some sawhorses and use those to hold up some 2by4s and put the plywood on top
3) Get some cheap IKEA storage shelves, about three of these, then just put some 2by4s on top and place the plywood on top that way
I’m looking for something cheap and easy to implement. I’m leaning towards the IKEA route but also thinking building a dedicated benchwork might allow me to have better storage items.
Anyone have any experience they can share with building benchwork for a shelf layout?

I’m working on this layout in Z Scale, but same concept as far as a shelf goes. See if this helps.

@US_Z_Scale interesting. You going to screw the brackets into the wall or will your shelf be free standing? Not sure I want to attach mine to the wall at all.

@BMR777 I screwed the brackets directly into the wall with anchors. I don’t know if that would work for HO Scale since it would be more weight. You could always put a leg on each shelf for more support. I considered doing that if necessary.

My layout is a self built wood frame on ikea ivar legs. It worked pretty well and has a good height of around 130cm
