So, I had this blank space on the layout and thought it was time to do something with it. It was not particularly large and the curved tracks behind limited what could be done. Originally there was no hedge at the front but I had put that in before taking the first photo. I made up a couple of Metcalfe workers cottages and a crofters…

A GWR (Great Western Railway) 0-6-0 Collett Goods on the down grade to Somewhere passing the mine at Betwixt.

The Great Western Railway was also known as God’s Wonderful Railway because of the romantic association people had with it, taking them to holiday destinations in the south west of England.

A little bit of steam running today. A mixed freight hauled by a 2MT waits at the station to let a visiting passenger train hauled by a “Crab” from the LMS region pass.

A BR Class 42 Warship hydraulic diesel hauls an FNA Nuclear Flask past the Chateau Petite Roche Vinyard at Betwixt.

In the 1960’s to the 1980’s nuclear flasks were hauled by a single locomotive. More recently, they are hauled by two locomotives, even for a single flask, in case one of the locos beaks done, so the train can self recover with the other loco.

A Western Pullman departs from the station in Somewhere.

These diesel Pullmans derived from the original Blue Pullmans that served the Midland region and were painted in “Nanking Blue”. Following the electrification of that region, they were moved to the BR Western Region and their livery was changed to the inverted blue/grey. They ran from 1960…

A little bit of evening running. A Hymek diesel express takes the down line past Folly Hill towards Somewhere, whilst a Prairie tank hauls a coal train on the branch line below.

A new addition to the loco fleet. A BR Class 14 diesel shunter. It’s a nice little loco that runs smoothly at low speeds, which is produced by Graham Farish. I am just slightly disappointed that it does not have directional lighting, which is a pity, because it comes pre-fitted with a speaker for sound. Personally, I would rather have the…

When you go on holiday you can’t take your model railway with you. However, you can take some model kits to make up whilst you are away. I have a lot of Metcalfe card kits on my layout, and with a small expansion planned, it is time to start making some more in preparation. This is the PN153 Village School in N Scale. The walls around…
