Such a great idea!
-
I’m disappointed that S scale is not an option in the profile list of scales that members model in. As an S scale modeler, I would rather not have to use “Other Scale” In my profile. 😔
-
@Scaler164 I will add S scale tomorrow it was my bad that I forgot about it. So we will fix it as soon as possible I will try to have it added tomorrow!
-
-
any chance to add a “news” category?
-
I’ve just added it to the feed topics so now it is possible to use it!
-
Thanks for the welcome
-
Thanks for setting this up. I have just registered and I will get my profile set up over the next few days
-
Oscar, I’m youre biggest fan! haha this is a great idea!
-
Hi there! Nice to be here. ATM I am without a layout due to country moving. Hope to be back on track soon. Mainly Nscale
-
Oscar, thanks so much for making a place like this for all model railroaders! I will definitely be making great use of your platform!
-
@Oscar is there a way to turn off email notifications or just certain ones? I don’t want to have constant emails.
-
@OKC_Train_Show hi I get that it should be possible in your account settings! Let me know if you can find it. I will also change the e-mail settings because I get that it is annoying.
-
@Oscar Thank you I found it. However, it wasn’t easy to find. Click profile then scroll all the way down on the left menu then go into account.
-
-
-
A very lovely and interesting Idea, I look forward to see how this develops!
-
This is such a good idea, thank you for putting the work in to create a dedicated community outside of the big social platforms.
-
Cracking idea, Oscar. Thanks for creating this site for us all. Cheers, Andy.
-
Thank you for coming up with this idea. I see this isn’t open source so, how are you going to fund this and how are you making this service pay for itself? Is it Ad revenue? Selling data to ‘industry’? We’re in a digital age and data is the new crude oil- apologies if this seems sceptical!
PS share to other socials would make my life so much more simpler 🙏
-
@Furness_Lines Hey Furness welcome to the community! In the future we will try to fund the platform for hobbyist with ad revenue from advertisers that are relevant. So there will be only train related advertisements.
And one important thing to mention, I can personally guarantee that I will never sell any data to companies. That is also the reason why I dont collect any data. So people only have to leave their email adress and a nickname.
So nobody has to worry about that. That is also an extra benefit of my platform against platforms like Facebook and instagram.
Kind regards, Oscar Founder Model Train Media

@Oscar thank you for your honesty and transparency, it is appreciated and refreshing.
-
@Modeltrainmedia Sounds promising. A request from those of us who’s eyeballs are captured by movement. Please only accept ads that have static images. I normally use an ad blocker at all times for two reasons. The first is to protect from drive-by malware. The second, and the reason I started doing so many years ago, is that motion strongly captures my focus. Things on the screen that move or blink make it almost impossible for me to focus on what I’m trying to read. It’s almost as if some of the sites don’t care if you can enjoy their content, as long as you see the ads. Thank you for considering this issue.

Is posting your club’s show allowed? Or would it be considered spam? Could a club set up a profile to share photos and activities, etc.?
-
@Andrew Yes ofcourse I want a platform where people can connect with eachother and where people can invite eachother!
-
@Modeltrainmedia Sounds good! Great job, too! I am loving this space!!!
-
-
-
How do you create a forum in this site, I have some few forum ideas I want to add.
-
@NScaleProductions Hey if you want to add forum categories you can ask me to add them and then you can be the first to start discussions. It is also possible to create a social group by yourself for a certain topic and then to add a forum that is connected to your social group with all the topics you want.
It is like this way because I want to protect the community against unwanted content and in this way people can have it while keeping a safe community!
-
@Modeltrainmedia Okay then, thanks
-
-
-
Hoping this new platform works out!
-
Hey Oscar,
It would be nice to have an option to bookmark a post so it can easily be found again. I would imagine it being available under the “3 dot ellipsis” that currently only holds “Report post” – but then again “bookmark post” and “report post” should probably not be located right next to each other… -
Thanks for starting this up! I’ve been in the hobby for 20+ years and I’m finally starting to build a layout. Always learning and sharing to help further the hobby with like minded people.
-
Its great to hear that you like the idea, the platform is in progress so together we can make this the best train platform online!
-
Not just”O” scale-On30!
-
@on30 I’ve now added scale-On30 as a topic to post in!
Thanks for your feedback together we can build a great community 🙂
It is also possible to be one of the first to create a dedicated group for scale-On30 this way there is a dedicated place, that would be awesome 😉
Kind regards,
Oscar Founder Model Train Media

@on30 Greetings from an 0n30 modeller in the Untied Kingdom!

Hello all just joined

@Bigboy1960 Welcome!

-
Greetings. Thank you for responding to my inquiry on FB. I look forward to helping represent and promoting the L-gauge model train community here. 🙂
-
@PhoenixTrainWorks Welcome!

-
Just joined yesterday. I love the idea of a dedicated social media platform for model railroading!
-
Oscar: edit your why join pitch. There are no apostrophes in plural words: “Share photo’s and video’s easily” should be “Share photos and videos easily”
-
I recently joined and like this site. The only issue I have with it is it’s kind of slow. Any plans on to offer paid memberships or sponsorship to help with the infrastructure bills?
-
@GlenForksRR Hi thanks for signing up and good to hear that you like the idea!
I am working very hard to generate some income so I can invest more in the infrastructure, there will be news soon regarding this. And I will be upgrading a lot of stuff in the upcoming weeks already so that is great for the performance of the site.
Also some problems today where caused by the problems regarding AWS so we hope these are fully fixed now but I am monitoring this closely. So the performance is top priority for us!
Kind regards,
Oscar

Greetings all. Another new member thanks to Jimmy and DIY and Digital Railroad. Quick intro. I have been a model railroader for well over 50 years. I have three layouts currently. HO Scale Newmans Own, a 13′ by 16″ switching layout. An HO Scale Milwaukee Road Beer Line, 12′ by 4′. And the N Scale Bay City Central. 10′ by 2′. Enjoy all of them.
-
@BeagleDad Welcome Nice to see that you are running different scales! Looking forward to see what you will share!

Can you put OO as an option in the profile drop down please
-
@TimberSurf You would like to have the OO scale as a clickable button on the profile menu?
Because if I am correct OO gauge is already possible to choose when posting in the feed.
Please let me know if you can find the topic OO gauge!
Kind regards,
Oscar
-
@Modeltrainmedia I am talking about my profile, Edit “About me” Information, scale dropdown, only has “other” that I can use.
-
@TimberSurf Thanks for the clarification and thank you for your feedback.
Now it is added to the list for about me please let me know if it possible to choose now!
Kind regards,
Oscar
-
Yes thanks Oscar, now an option and I have selected, thanks for the prompt response!

For “topics” under group creation, I would like to see a free form topic field – so for example, in my newly created “Great Central Railway” group, I would want “Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway”, “LNER days” (or at least “History” as a topic), along with “Ready to Run”, and “Kit building”, and “Preservation line” rather than just a list of scales.
-
thank you for letting me join
-
@lewie Welcome to the community Lewie it is growing fast, thanks for being a part of it! 🙂

A beginning with Hex Trax Modules
I have posted some of this information online on various groups but to be honest like many modellers or model train enthusiasts and collectors, my layout is in my head but I am letting some ideas come out as follows.
Having tried OO and N gauges my first layout board was about four feet long and was a N gauge layout of Crianlarich Station built in a bedroom I thought it was nice wee layout but a change in my circumstances ment it had to go was given to a model railway club in Linwwood and went on to become part of a bigger layout by the Renfrew MRC. We tried a OO layout which hung from the spare bedroom ceiling, as fine but visitors were unsure when sleeping under it, it was dismantled while we redecorated the room it never went up after that.
I have pottered about with small test tracks as storage space is limited but that layout in my head wanted to come to fruition.
Through the wonders of the WWW there is many layouts that can be stored away easily and quickly set up again.
The track I eventually used was N gauge Kato easy to put together and dismantle on a kitchen table, great for grandchildren to play around with.
As for layouts I have tried N T track but found it too bulky had two triples and two corners which I built myself, enjoyed making them, but hard to store in my shed
My next venture was to have a go at N pocket modules and made enough to fill a banquet table although not as bulky as T Track still hard to store .
Both of above allowed me to run my N Gauge stock but only got as far as laying track and a wee bit of electronics, just pondered over doing the scenery which I never built .
Last year enjoyed watching a demonstration of the Kato circus modules at the Glasgow MRS then came across Hex Trax online my latest efforts would include my representative of Corrour Station on one side of a hex laid on a folding banquet table , was going to make the hex modules myself but cheaper to buy readymade from Train Trax but may have a go when weather gets better.
My attempt to make a West highland ish layout, the buildings will be removable in sections which will allow the Hex modules to be” played With .
The Layout Hex Modules are stored in a 35L really useful box and it only takes les than five minuets to assemble so I can have my trains running around on the table and SWHTBO is reasonably happy as it stores away easily and my layout in my head is slowly emerging . My hope is that each hex module can be worked on my desktop time will tell.
No matter what I can now let my trains out of storage and free of their boxes, I can run them easily in DC or DCC so far I have tested my fleet of DCC and they all seem to cope with the tight radius and the kato Y points its now time to make the bases for the buildings and platform.

Just arrived…..thanks to Dawn.

Awesome website! Thank you for putting this together for all scales.
-
So I was brought here originally by a YouTuber who also happens to have a profile on here Jimmy, but it’s so nice having somewhere that I can discuss trains and see other people’s layouts and all kinds of things like that
-
@SoullessEngineer615 That is exactly why we have build this platform and we are looking forward to expand this community even more!
-
-
I’m John Pierce from Syracuse, NY. My main scale is N but I have an HO Christmas Layout. I belong to Salt City NTRAK and have seven modules. The modules can plug into my home layout and I have a video log of my layout on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8dh2IWrWGYRwDHH_5TfKZA
I like to collect the local railroads of the North East United States. When building the layouts I enjoy all facets of the hobby. I will buy premade, build kits, scratch build and 3D print. An overall of my layout is shown in the picture.
-
@jpiercemel Welcome to the community, I really appriciate you being here and lets build an awesome platform together.
That looks like a large nice layout aswell, congrats!
Kind regards,
Oscar
